Job Title:

Assistance Center Specialist

Duties:

  1. Through telephone interview, obtain sufficient factual information to determine the agency or resource to meet the need.
  2. Give adequate information concerning the resource to enable the client to make use of it: i.e., telephone numbers, location, hours, etc.
  3. Screen client for emergency assistance by obtaining all data necessary in order for staff to make an assessment.
  4. Determine through follow-up, when appropriate, whether a person received the services from the agency referred. Advise staff if advocacy appears to be needed by our agency.
  5. Assist with clerical and other duties to help maintain the smooth functioning of the office.

Qualifications:

  1. Pleasant phone voice.
  2. Good oral and written communication.
  3. Listening skills.
  4. An empathetic and non-judgmental attitude.
  5. An understanding of and sensitivity to the needs, attitudes, and behavior of users of the service. An ability to determine action in relation to need and urgency.

  3. The complete support of the agency, staff, board of directors, and volunteers.

What is Expected of an Assistance Center Volunteer

To become a volunteer for the Assistance Center of Collin County you must:

  1. Have a screening interview.
  2. Make a commitment to serve one year.
  3. Complete initial training.
  4. Work on telephone shift once a week (we work around vacation, etc.)
  5. Attend in-service training sessions as scheduled.
  6. Sign a statement of confidentiality.
