Getting In The Holiday Spirit

It seems school has just begun and it's time to prepare for our role in the city-wide Thanksgiving and Christmas food and gift programs.

Working with our partner churches and outside volunteers, we designed a process to help in selecting, reviewing, verifying and evaluating 500 families to receive Thanksgiving dinner. At a regular meeting and training session, staff and volunteers shared the plan, exchanged ideas on logistics and learned the application, review and approval steps. Administration is the key to putting our resources where they are most needed, eliminate duplication and make certain that the right meals are delivered on time to the right people.

We've already working with our partners, including Santa Clause and Plano Santas, to make certain we have found the families in most need, gotten their specific Christmas lists and have notified the food collection teams of the groceries it will take to feed our families. For Christmas we also coordinate the adoption of families by individuals, corporations, churches and local families who enjoy shopping and delivering Christmas gifts to their adopted families.

As the holiday spirit fills the area, we can always find a meaningful task for a volunteer. If your neighborhood, club, work group or church group wants to be involved with others in sharing the Christmas spirit through this city-wide program, please contact us.
