Plano commemorates 26 years of service to community

Mayor Phil Dyer proclaimed August 27 Jackie Hall day remembering her leadership in solving crisis situations in housing, food, shelter and medical needs.

At an event attended by those who served with her as staff, volunteers and board of director members, Jackie was welcomed as an accomplished professional, driver of social services and programs in the county and friend. Also in attendance were members of Collin county social services agencies, agency sponsor organizations, city leaders and elected officials past and present.

Jackie has been at the forefront of crisis response as she lead the agency from the original Information and Referral organization to the Assistance Center as the need moved from providing referrals to social services to a need for fast response to situations where families need food, shelter or medicine. By providing help fast, Jackie told the attendees, we can minimize the impact of the crisis and help families avoid the loss of a home or job. Her knowledge of social services helped lead the agency into a leadership position in the metroplex and drove the development and publication of a central directory of social services agencies in the area.

The agency was established to provide efficient use of support from churches, governments, corporations and individuals. With Jackie's direction the mission was met. Many programs that begun as good ideas came to life and grew to provide real support to those in need. She will be remembered for her work on School Supplies and Shoes, Thanksgiving and Plano Santa programs.

She said she hadn't kept track of the numbers of people the agency helped, or the amount of assistance she directed to those in immediate need. We won't know the numbers but we can see the impact she has had over 26 years.
