Special Programs
While our mission is responding to people in crisis, the Center helps with screening, qualification, logistics and administrative details of special programs.
Annual School Supplies for Plano ISD
This project is coordinated through the
Resurrection Lutheran Church. Virtually all schools in Plano receive
support through this project.
The Center is abuzz as late summer turns to school time. We screen applicants for proof of residence, enrollment in PISD and proof of need. Distribution of supplies is handled by staff and volunteers prior to the start of school. Volunteers receive big smiles from students as they hand them a backpack with the school supplies they need to achieve.
Shoe Ministry
Many students are unwilling or unable to attend
school because they do not have shoes, or shoes that match.
Through coordinated efforts with area churches, Assistance Center
staff and volunteers, in conjunction with a
corporate sponsor, have worked to fill this gap. During the Annual School
Supply screening, children are offered an opportunity to receive a
voucher for a new pair of shoes and socks.
Thanksgiving Program
The Center qualifies recipients
and helps find donor organizations, corporations, religious groups
and individuals to supply food, transportation, staging areas,
distribution services plus the money, meal vouchers and groceries
that allow us to enjoy Thanksgiving as a community.
Plano Santas
The elves at the Assistance Center work with churches,
corporations, small businesses and families prior to the Christmas
holidays to match those in need
with volunteers who shop for selected families. This ensures that each
member of a family registered for this program has some enjoyment
for Christmas.
If you have an idea for a special program, please share it with us.
To volunteer for any of these programs, complete our Volunteer Application, then fax or email it to the Center.
